China Auto Industry Booming
By Son Nguyen
The Wall Street Journal reported in their June 12, 2009 article, “Chinese Car-Parts Makers Expand,” that China has surpassed the United States as the no. 1 light vehicle market in the world. There are several interpretations that can be made from this. The automobile industry, as well as the support infrastructure around the auto industry must look at China, and much of Asia, as a coveted growth market, both as a business-to–business target, and a business-to-consumer market in these challenging economic times. Industries originally moved to Asia for labor cost savings. Companies looking to expand in Asia are now looking at Asia as a market to go after, not merely a labor commodity to exploit.
