Welding Technologies & Standards
As what we call in industrial applications, a “joining process,” welding has many forms of application, a diverse continuum of technologies, and many standards that must be properly understood. We examine and provide instruction in materials that are being prepared for welding and the various classifications for welding, among them: oxyfuel gas welding, arc welding, resistance welding, and solid state welding.
The class content also gives examples of unique processes in each technology such as thermit welding, laser beam, electroslag, flash, induction, and electron beam welding. We study the uses, advantages, and limitations of each joining method. Our examination includes other sub-classes of welding technologies, including ultrasonic welding, diffusion welding, inert gas, and friction techniques.
Brazing and soldering are also discussed especially in the context of components repair and assembly for such areas as hydraulics and tube assembly fabrication.
